Today, Monday, the Ministry of Planning said, It discussed the possibility of creating a new province in southern Iraq. It is called (Sumer) governorate according to the planning and development criteria.
This came during a meeting with the Director General of the Department of Regional and Local Development in the Ministry, Dr. Muhammad Mohsen Al-Sayed, With the representative of Dhi Qar Governorate, Adel Al-Rikabi
During the meeting, they discussed the request of Representative Al-Rikabi submitted by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, which includes a proposal to create the province of Sumer.
The meeting was attended by the planning team from the Department of Urban Architectural Systems.
Preliminary discussions took place about the criteria for creating governorates and the possibilities available for creating the proposed (Sumer) governorate and the districts and districts that could be included in the northern parts of Dhi Qar Governorate.
And Al-Sayyed indicated that he will conduct in-depth detailed studies and explore the views of the people and the various social, cultural and economic activities, as well as study the maps and profiles of the cities and villages of the proposed (Sumer) governorate, to show the extent to which it is possible to proceed with the development according to the urban and rural spatial development policy in Iraq.
