The Ministry of Planning announced, On Tuesday, the achievement of great progress in the percentage of completion of the road leading to the residential city of Bismayah, south of the capital, Baghdad. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, after the completion rate reached more than (62%).
The ministry stated that the specialized field teams in the Department of Government Investment Programs and Sector Planning of the Ministry of Planning, carried out a field visit to the aforementioned project, in order to stand on the level of implementation and the stages of work progress, and diagnosing the problems and obstacles that delay the completion process.
The statement indicated that the project includes:
Rehabilitation and maintenance of the main road (Baghdad – Kut). The link from the “Al-Taqa” roundabout to the residential city of Bismayah, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, with a length of (7) kilometers. Indicating that the aim of the project is to provide a road according to international standards that facilitates the movement and safety of cars and reduces traffic jams, and improving the entrances to the capital, Baghdad. As well as transferring traffic from one side to the other by providing overpasses that reduce traffic accidents.
The statement indicated that the completion rate of the project amounted to 62%, at an estimated cost of about (92) billion dinars. It added, “It includes the construction of the second Rustamiya concrete bridge, and three overpass bridges on the road linking the Diyala Bridge to the “taqa” roundabout, as well as the expansion of the main road from “Taqa” roundabout to the city of Bismaya on both sides with a width of 6 meters, so that the width of the final road is 16 meters in each direction, and the construction of an external shoulder with a width of 3 meters, with the lengthening of the existing bridges, in addition to the construction of two service roads with two lanes on the current road with a width of 8 meters, and the construction of an external shoulder with a width of two and a half meters in both directions. And back, isolating the road with a median island with a width of more than seven meters, and constructing two overpasses at the entrances to residential areas and lighting them, and constructing three new pedestrian bridges.
The Ministry of Planning recommended that the violations be lifted on the road, in coordination with the concerned authorities. And finding a solution to the issue of the road lane at the Baghdad Gate and reconsidering the location of the gate, as well as emphasizing that the Water Directorate of the Baghdad Governorate expedite the approval of the checks for water pipes and an emphasis on preventing trespassing on the works carried out in the water networks section.
