On Wednesday,the Ministry of Planning held a workshop on the reality of rural development in Iraq. The participants in the workshop discussed the mechanisms of benefiting from the Thai experience in developing and implementing rural development programs” through a research presented by researcher Zainab Ali Jumaa.
The Department of Economic and Financial Policies also participated in a discussion of the importance of rural development and its role in economic growth, with a presentation by Dr. Salam Hamel Brighesh, and researcher Youssef Fawzy. The Department of Regional and Local Development gave a presentation on “how to implement rural development programs in Iraq”.
The workshop recommended the need to prepare comprehensive strategic plans for the advancement of the agricultural situation in Iraq. Paying attention to rural development methods and providing comprehensive services with the introduction of modern technology on a larger scale. Actively working to solve all problems related to water resources. Rehabilitation and treatment of irrigation projects. In addition to mitigating the impact of climate on agriculture and expediting the resolution of all problems related to property disputes. Emphasizing the enactment of laws and legislations related to the protection of local agricultural products. Encouraging decentralization and applying standards of rural governance in all its forms, with a review of trade policies and land reclamation projects, an increase in its allocations, and a practical re-evaluation of the social and economic reality. Work to develop appropriate solutions to treat water scarcity.
The workshop, which was held by the team of experts in the ministry, was attended by the Director General of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Department, Dr. Sabah Jundi Mansour, and a number of experts, heads of departments, divisions and relevant authorities, in addition to a number of employees of the ministry, headed by expert Imad Naji, while the head of the team of experts in the ministry, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, was the rapporteur of the workshop.
