Minister of Planning Dr. Nuri Sabah Al-Dulaimi chaired on Wednesday the meeting of the Higher Steering Committee of the Women's Economic Empowerment Project. During the meeting, they discussed all possible ways to empower women economically and socially in cooperation with the World Bank and the UN active programs in Iraq.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ibtisam Aziz, Director-General of the Women's Empowerment Department at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Ms. Aqad Hussein, Director-General of Human Development at the Ministry of Planning, and a number of representatives of the World Bank, the public and private sectors and civil society organizations.
Dr. Nouri Al-Dulaimi explained the strategy prepared by the Ministry for the economic empowerment of women in cooperation with the World Bank and relevant public sector entities, which includes increasing job opportunities and empowering women in the labor market in the city and the countryside, and providing appropriate opportunities for women entrepreneurs to compete for the implementation of government projects within the preferential contracts.
He called for supporting and encouraging simple women's products and providing the requirements for their success and development within the framework of the policy of promoting and protecting the national product, confirming the ministry's support for women's professional training centers in all governorates in cooperation with the World Bank, and strive to lead women in small and medium enterprises, through soft loans without interest or Guarantees.
For her part, Dr. Ibtisam Aziz praised the vision of the Ministry of Planning for the Empowerment of Women, stressing that this vision will establish an important next stage that will contribute to enhancing the developmental role of women, and benefit from the abilities and competencies of women.
